Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Child support

I received a summons today. I have to file an appearence to determine if I am the natural father of a 16 year old. My name and another possible father were named in the summons. I hav'nt seen the petitioner since 1990. If I am the father am I liable for back child support payments. The summons states that I am to pay support for the period prior to the commencement of this action pursuant to 750 ILCS 45/14.

Re: Child support

Hello. First of all, you need a lawyer. Secondly,

you need to file an appearance in the case so

you will not be defaulted. Do this right away.

Third, no DNA test can determine with 100%

certainly whether you are the father of a child,

but if you are not excluded from paternity if

the test says that there is a 99.2% possibility

of paternity, you can seek a trial on the issue

or you can stay put as "Dad" and you could be

liable for child support from the time that you were served with the complaint and summons. I will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.
