Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

child support

From what I understand , if a non custodial parent gets too far behind in child support they can be put in jail. My question is... is that true and if so how far behind would the parent have to be before that could happen?

Re: child support

It can be true, but the point is to make an effort to pay your child support. If your income doesn't support what you are ordered to pay, you need to immediately file for a modification (ie if you lose your job). Child support doesn't change until you get a court order. Since it is based on your income in Illinois, and as long as you are making a good faith effort to pay it, it is important to get it modified as soon as possible if you need to have it lowered.
