Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Child support/finances
Our son, in another part of the state, is at the point of not eating to pay bills and child support and still is in arrears. He is in debt part on his own and things that his ex has done. She does not work and relies on him and the state to care of her and their 4 children. They have 2 handicap children which gets (in our opinion) minimal care for their health) If I understand him correctly, he has a stack of paper work that puts him out on the street in a heart beat and many creditors are standing in line. He will not take our advise because we are not lawyers. Is there any recourse or help for him without us going into huge debt. We have already given him thousands of dollars and he is no better.

Bankruptcy is one option, and you can offer to pay the bankruptcy attorney. Child support is fairly strict in IL, but if he stands to file for bankruptcy, there could be some possibility of getting relief.
You might also consider talking with a debt management agency about ways to reduce his paying interest or penalties to some of these creditors. If he is considering bankruptcy, they will be willing to work with him to collect some money.
Good luck. Feel free to give us a call.

I would suggest that you help your son by assisting him to consult with a bankruptcy attorney and also possible a domestic relations attorney. Many attorneys will agree to offer a free consultation to determine whether they are able to be of assistance. Good luck to you and your son.
