Child Visitation question
Hi, my exboyfriend wants to take me to court. The papers say the defendant should get sole custody but that he wants free visitation rights and he wants me to acknowledge he is the father. Why is that? He also wants part in all decisions concerning my daughter. Im ok with the visitation but not with the free visitation and i dont think he should have right to any decisions. What can i do? Help...

Re: Child Visitation question
1. delicate question, but it need to be asked. Are you absolutly sure he is the father. If not, he has no rights.
2.he is asking for custody. that is not easy for him to accomplish. You as custodial parent will be making al decisions.
4. If you go to public aid they can go back 36 months on support payments. A court can only order payments forward. Tell him you will be seeking all back support due you.
3.he will be granted visitation, but it will be according to a court schedule.

Re: Child Visitation question
I'd like to hear more about your situation to give you better advice. But here's some basic info. Either parent has a right to seek the custody of their child, so the father can try to get custody of your daughter and then you'd have "reasonable visitation" rights. Conversely, you can seek custody and then he'd be able to have visitation rights. The non-custodial parent will also likely be responsible for some financial support. If you have had custody of your daughter since her birth, it's tough to think he'd be able to gain custody but again, I need to hear more about each of your living circumstances and parenting behavior. Are you certain this gentleman is the legal/biological father?
