Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
want to see children
My stepson, Matthew, has been in and out of prison due to drugs and alcohol. He has 3 children with his girlfriend. Matthew has not paid any $$ to this mother who has been on public aid since the children were born. Matthew now has turned over a new leaf and is trying to get his life straightened out. He is trying to make $ so that he can help support his children and is seeing a young lady who has a good head on her shoulders. The children's mother is a cocaine user and is now engaged to marry a man who does cocaine and alcohol with no drivers license. Numerous times my husband and I have tried to take the children from all of them, but the law is on their side. Matthew was just told he will not be able to see the children at all--the children's grandfather is getting a lawyer to keep them away from Matthew. Because Matthew is trying to get his life in order and trying to make money, he does not have much to spend on a lawyer. What should he do??

Re: want to see children
Hello. Matthew should contact one of the Bar
Associations and seek free or reduced legal
representation. Trying to represent himself in
this type of case would be disastrous! He needs
a lawyer right now.
