civil contempt of court`

being charged with civil contempt because of nonpayment for 5 months of court ordered settlement amount on $5,0000. I can't afford to pay, and am filing bankruptcy also. I am scared and don't know what to do when I go to court. I can't afford an attorney. Please give me some advice!!!

Hello. You are in a tight situation. Fill out

an income/expense affidavit. You can usually get

this from the Clerk of the Court. Submit this

to the other attorney before court and bring it

to court with you. Ask the court if you can pay

monthly toward the $5,000, or see if you can

get a 60 day continuance to come up with half.

Get help from family members and friends because

you could be incarcerated and the bond set at

$5,000 which means you may not be released from

jail, until the $5,000 is paid. Walk carefully

here. Seek additional legal advice anyway. You

will be smart to borrow money to bring a lawyer

to court with you. Otherwise, it could be alittle rough and an experience that might traumatize you for quite a while. Will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.
