Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

A close friend of mine is divorced and is paying child support however, he cannot pay the full amount because of his unemployed status. He will be temporarily leaving the country to start a diplomatic position with the United Nations but his court date interferes with the dates he'll be gone. He will try to get the court date changed but is it possible for the court to force him to be there on that date?
