College Support

I have been divorced for 18 yrs / with 2 children aged 20 & 21. When I first went through my divorce I wanted to stay on good terms with my kids - so went along with the mothers demands. The original decree included college support - although it does indicate if affordable. I have been providing support for the entire time including insurance. Due to the amount of support I provide I can barely pay my own obligations and have no money if anything should happen. When it is Union Dues week I only take home $40.00 more than my kids. Their mother is also in financial straights but refuses to admit it - because she wants the best for the kids - so do I - but with the way things are going I do not know how much longer I can continue to help out. Illinois Law seems to protect the children of divorce no matter what. Although I would have liked to have had an option I was forced by the court to pay and outrageous amount of support. I also have no relationship with them - I've seen them for about 3 hrs in the last 2 year period. What can I do - if anything?

This sounds like a case that I gave advice to about a month ago. You need to go back to court and have the child support modified, and get a written visitation schedule in place. My firm handles quite a few of those, and its really just a process. From what you described, you should be able to get a reduction.
