Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I need a copy of an order

I need a copy of the final order from the Circuit Court of Cook County Illinois Municipal Department Case NO: 86 MI--009344 where it says Dr. Hai is responsible for his daughter's college education. I can't seem to find a site that will let me access that information. Is my only option to hire a Chicago lawyer? The original lawyer has retired with no forwarding information available.

Re: I need a copy of an order

You could do one of the following:

1) Write to the clerk of the court enclosing a blank check marked "Not Good Over Ten Dollars" and a self addressed stamped envelope.

2) (better) Use a search engine (google, superpages) to find a process service or attorney service in that locality. They will pull the document for you. Probably you will want a certified copy. These companies usually take plastic and are far easier to deal with than the court clerks.

Re: I need a copy of an order

I advise you not to send a check to the clerks office with a self addressed stamped envelope because the clerk will not send you anything.

Since this is in the Cook county court system you need to have someone pull the acutal court file and make a copy of the order. You can get an attorney to do that or look in the yellow pages for a paralegal/filing service. The paralegal/filing service is going to be less expensive.

There is one thing I would like to point out--with 15 years of practice in Cook County there is always the possibility that the court order will not be in the file or even that the file still exists. If you have any questions call my office.
