Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Does it cost anything to request someone's child support be re-adjusted? As in a status check has not been done in many years. I am getting ripped off pretty bad but I am a single parent and I cannot afford to hire a lawyer and go to court and all of that. I am allowing my son's father to claim him every other year on his taxes. This hurts me badly at tax time as he is my only exemption. I have physical custody and my son lives in my house 12 months out of the year and I pay for all of his care. His dad does not. What can I do?
