Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Court appearance and results

My ex husband has been taking me to court over medical pmt he says i owe. Last court date he did not notify me till the day before and did not tell me of new court date. I have since found out the result of second court date but have not been notified of any changes which should have resulted because of judges ruling. Am i responsible to initiate the changes, shouldn't i have been notified somehow?

Re: Court appearance and results

Hello. You are entitled to proper and timely notice of all motions that your ex-husband presents to the court.

Notices mailed to you should be mailed 7 days in advance. However, your ex can give you notice for a court date less than 7 days away if he has the notice delivered to you pesonally. If you determine that the court entered an order adverse to your interest and that you did not have adequate notice that your ex was going back to court on that day, then you should file a motion to vacate that order. You need to find out what happened during the last court hearing immediately. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
