Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Too many court date postponements???
My mother-in-law is currently in the process of a divorce. Her husband, my father-in-law, was served with papers in late 2006. It is now 2008, the judge has post poned the divorce trial date 5 times now. She is now on the 6th trial date. My mother-in-law is running out of money. She has been staying with my wife and I since the beginning of the year. What I want to know: Is this how it works? Does she just have to wait this out and let the judge and the lawyers handle this? Does the judge have the right to post pone the trial date as much as he wants, without any oversight?Or is this unusual? I do have concerns of bias on the judge's part. The judge is very pro-family and has written papers supporting his personal views on marriage.
Do you have any advice or comments on this matter?

I would need to know more information as to why there was a delay in order to give an opinion regarding the delays. Emergencies do arise.
