can you get a court order to test for paternity before the child is born

This is an interesting question. The first thing to consider would be how to obtain a DNA sample from the unborn child. It would probably be better to wait until after the child has been born to seek a test. However, there may be nothing preventing a parent from initiating parentage proceedings in anticipation of the birth.
