custodial father needs birth certificate......
hello, i have custody of my 3yr old son. my name isn't on the birth certificate. he has his mothers last name. the vigo county courthouse won't give me a birth certificate, thus he can't be enrolled in school. would you please give me your advice on this and how to change his last name. i have heard of a land of lincoln law firm that helps people that can't spend a lot of money.we live in clark county illinois do you recomend anyone? or can i do this with out a lawyer. thank you for your time. the biological mother doesn't have any visition and pays no child support. i would love to terminate her rights and let their mommy adopt all three of the boys(3,4,5yr old)yes one thing at a time. thank you again, some times a regular joe doesn't know where to find help.

What you must do first is file a case with the court admitting paternity. Then ask the judge for an order changing the child's last name to yours.
In Illinois, a parent is deemed to have abandoned a child if they have had no contact with the child for 3 months or more.
You must find an attorney to do this for you. I don't know anything about a Land of Lincoln Law Firm. However, you should contact legal aid in your county.Good luck.
