Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
custody
Hello I am a single mother of twin boys. On July 14, 2007 their father left me for a 16 year old girl. I am 19 and he is 21. He is a three time convicted felony in the state of Pennslyvannia, for the rape of a minor I don't know what the other charges are exactly. The only other thing i know is that he was 16 and she was 14 or 15. He now lives in Nebraska but I found out today that he is coming back to Illinois where i live. I do not want him to see our children because he has threatened to take them away from me and run with them. I do not trust him and i don't know what to do. I don't know if i should get a restraining order against him or not. I don't know how to go about getting full custody of my sons. I would really like for him to sign over his rights to them and stay away from us. I just don't know how to do that. I don't have a lot of money so i can't afford a lawyer. If you could please give me any advice or point me in the right direction i would be very thankful.

Re: custody
To get full custody of your two sons, you will need to go to court, namely for an Order for Protection. Although it may cost a little for an attorney, if you don't do this correctly, you may be spending a lot of time down the road because things were not done properly in court. If the only matter you have is obtaining an OFP, our firm may be able to offer the minimal services to obtain one at no cost under our "pro bono" program. There are some cases in which a simple matter needs to be brought to the attention of the court and is a matter of risk to children that our firm offers free help. Also, make sure that you do not let any person you do not trust have access to your children while this matter is up in the air.
