Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

When Dad Won't Pay

How can I help myself if my ex-husband simply REFUSES to follow visitation times, pay medical reimbursements and pay any child support? The ex makes GOOD money and is not injured. I cannot pay a retainer to a lawyer. Finances have become so depleted, food, clothing and shelter are no longer easily obtained. Thank you for your time.

Re: When Dad Won't Pay

You have two options. The first being that you can file a petition yourself with the court which informs the court that your ex is not paying child support pursuant to the divorce decree nor is he providing other things stated in the divorce decree.

The second option is contact the Illinois Department of Public Aid. They have a program which will aid you in getting the child support. As far as I know this is a free program and does not depend upon your income level.
