Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

i need help with my ex, we have a daughter and there was no custodial judgments set. we did not go to court i was not in her life for the first few months at the request of the mother. i offered to pay child support but she would not accept, instead she had her ex husband sign the birth certificate. for a while to keep the peace, per-say i just had visits with her and bought her what she needed but it was never appreciated. her ex husband has all the fatherly rights that i should, and im tired of playing these games. i want to see my daughter. i am in the army national guard and i work full time and go to school, and i live on my own. i am a well established person so i don't know what the problem is. can you please tell me what to do and what to expect.

You can always seeking visitation time with your daughter. You'll need to file a motion with the court seeking the rights that you want. Since you aren't on the birth certificate, you probably haven't had your parental rights set up. You need to make sure that you do two things to keep your parental rights intact. First, get on line and sign up for the Putative Father Registry. Second, file a parentage action as soon as possible. If she wants this other man to be the father, she could have him adopt your daughter and without signing up for the Putative Father Registry and without filing a court case, your parental rights are in jeopardy.
