Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My daughters father after spending the last 10 years behind on child support is now caught up & has decided to take me to court to gain tax exemptions of her. My husband and I have her more tha 75% of the time and pay more then 75% of her care and her fathers arguement is that it is not me technically paying for her it is my husband and therefore I am not intitled to the exemption. We do not have a thousand dollars to blow on a lawyer right before Christmas ect - should I be concerned about this and retain an attorney regardless of the money?

I'm not certain of how much the tax exemption is and how that affects your annual budget, therefore, I do not know whether or not your should be concerned about this. Many parties choose to alternate years with the tax exemption, and most courts find that to be fair, regardless of who the child(ren) live with or how much support is being paid.
