Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

death benifits

I was told that as long as a child is under age in Illinois the parent who is paying the support must have all thier life insurance in the children's name until they finish college...which means the parent they reside with would reap the other parents death...is this a law in Illinois or just a nice idea?? thank you...Rebecca

Re: death benifits

Hello. Generally the court will order that both

parents have life insurance naming the child as

an irrevocable beneficiary in an amount set by

the court. However, this will not prevent the

parents from having other life insurance for their other children. Will be happy to answer

any additional questions you may have.
