Re: Death of husband

Dear Madam,

I am sorry to hear the news of your husband's passing. My deepest sympathies for you and your family.

For the medical bills, was there insurance government or other coverage which your husband had? If so, then they probably did not require you to sign as a guarantor for the bills, since you would have only a co-pay. If not, and you did sign as a guarantor, you can still refuse to pay. It may not be worth it, for them to file suit. It may get on your credit record, but there is a procedure for dealing with that. I assume that there are no substantial assets, so that a probate estate will not likely be opened, by you or by creditors.

As for the cellphone and other bills, you should not necessarily feel responsible for them, if you were not a cosigner on the account.

Please feel free to contact me by e-mail in the days to come. In the meantime, I will pray that God will comfort you during this tough time.

Sincerely,

Gerald Nordgren

No, unless you co-signed for them.
