Can mother's will legally pass on half of property to son after her death?

Hello and Happy New Year. If the property is held by both spouses, the will of the deceased spouse will not pass the property to the son. The surviving spouse owns the property. Usually, deeds contain the language
"in joint tenancy with the right of survivorship." This means that the surviving spouse takes the property. I will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
