when your developmentally delyed child turns 18 do you have to apply for guardianship in illinois even though you are the parent

If the child is not competent to make decisions, then you need a guardianship. Once the child turned 18he /she is an adult and can make his/her own decisions. A parent no longer has any rights to make any medical or other decisions for the child, The law presumed he/she is competent to make those decisions.
