in a divorce deposition, can one answer only yes or no?

If the question can be answered yes or no, normally that's what you do. If you were represented by an attorney (and even if you're subpoenaed you have a right to your own counsel), he or she should have given you some basic guidelines. But if you are asked your name, age, etc., the answer obviously can't be yes or no unless the question is asked "are you X years old..." On the other hand, if you are concerned about self-incrimination, that's a different situation altogether and you would need to ask that specifically.
