Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Divorce

I filed for divorce in April of this yearPro Bono. Weve been separated for 1 years and there isnt anything to divide. However, he hired an attorney; not to contest the divorce, but to petition that I pay the debt on a car that he wouldnt allow me to take when I moved out. The loan was solely in his name and he threatened to call the police and report it stolen if I took it even though I made all the payments & insured it for almost 2 years prior to leaving him. He drove it around for 3 months after we separated without making one payment or insuring it. He had no intention to keep the car, but merely took it to inflict pain on me. He then took it to the bank and had them auction it off leaving a balance of $10,500 which he rolled over into another loan solely in his name. I have a hearing set for June 23, 2008 with a motion to Prove Up and Im not sure what my rights are with this car. His Lawyer has now set a court date for tomorrow - motion for temp. relief. What does that mean and should I be responsible for the debt of this loan?

Re: Divorce

Do yourself a favor and hire a lawyer. It's obvious you don't know what you're doing, and you won't learn by tomorrow. Tell the judge you want time to hire an attorney.
