Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

At a divorce hearing, must I appear (I am the Petitioner) or can my attorney appear on my behalf? I know for a fact that my soon to be ex will not appear as he is not even in the states and I just started a new job so if I take off, even for an hour, I'll be reprimanded.

You must appear. Illinois law requires that some appear and testify. If you don't, you can't get divorced.
