Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Divorce

My husband is an alcoholic. What do I need to do to get out of this marriage before something bad happens and we get sued for something he does. He has ruined us financially from 1 hospital stay for 7 weeks and 2 4 week stays in rehab. He is self employed, so no work-no money. He has barely worked the last 5 months and has taken all of my savings & 401K. I am liable for our house payment, so I can't really afford to leave. What should I do?

Re: Divorce

Looks like you are fed up with the marriage. Nothing in the law prevents you from getting a divorce and getting out of a marriage that has done nothing but bog you down and fizzle you out of every precious penny. Aside of moral issues and perhaps a little whining about maintenance which you can easily avoid, you are home free with a divorce. There's a good chance that you get to keep the house.
