Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

divorce

I live in Chicago, IL. I was married in Las Vegas, NV 7 years ago. About 12 months ago my spouse left me and moved to Texas. I have told him I want a divorce, but he said he won't sign if he gets served with papers. We have no property together or children.

Questions: 1) Do I have to file for divorce in Las Vegas?. 2) Can I initiate divorce proceedings even if he won't sign?

Thank you,

Monica

Re: divorce

You can file for divorce in Illinois. It doesn't matter if he signs or not. If he is served with papers and doesn't answer, you can get a default divorce. Please call for a free consultation.
