Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Divorce
How long by law can a divorce go on? If the
paperwork goes back and forth and both parties
cannot agree on all subjects, does it come to a
standstill and never resolved?

Re: Divorce
It can go on for quite some time and depends on where you live. Some courts are better than others at forcing cases to settle or have a hearing and let the judge decide. It also depends on the issues - complex financial cases generally take longer than those without the intricate finances. The longest case I have had dragged on for almost two years. Sometimes one or both parties are so intent on vengence and are so bitter that they would rather the attorneys get all the money just so their spouse couldn't.
