Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

want divorce from lost spouse

How does one get a divorce from a lost spouse? I heard that it is as simple as putting an add in the paper for your spouse to respond. Is that a myth?

It takes more than putting an ad in the paper. You have to file a complaint. Then place it for publication with the Chicago Law Bulletin, and after a certain time, move for default. Then you put on a default hearing and present the judge with a judgment for dissolution of marriage. Do yourself a favor and hire a lawyer.
