Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I'm going through a divorce and my soon to be ex spouse and I have decided that I will provide medical and dental coverage for two years. My human resources dept said this is fine as long as I provide them with a qualified domestic relations order. Is this something that will be issued once divorce is finalized even though we agreed and judge didnt force it?

A Qualified Domestic Relations Order divides pensions and has nothing to do with medical benefits. The law requires that one or both parents provide medical insurance for minor children until age 18 or 19. After your divorce is entered, i.e., finalized, you cannot provide medical/dental insurance to your ex through your company.

Rather than a QDRO, you will need a child support order and a Notice to Withhold served upon your employer.
