Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

We currently going through a divorce that is currently at the stage where we had our final court hearing and both sides had submitted the final argument to the Judge. That was during the end of May of 2009. Until now, we still have yet heard from the Judge.

I dont know how many times I have asked my lawyer on the status during these past several months. My lawyer kept telling me that my file is still on the Judges table. I asked him to speak with the Judge to see why it is taking so long. My lawyer kept saying that he was not able to get a hold of the Judge. Frankly, I dont think my lawyer is trying to help me to figure out what is causing this 10 months long delay.

Is there any rule in Illinois that require the Judge to issue a ruling after a certain period? What should I do right now?

There may be a local rulein the circuit you live in. There is no such rule in Cook County. The lawyer (and you) are in a difficult sitution. If you complain too loudly, it may prejudice the judge,. Maybe a motion to reopen the proofs due to the delay in issuing the opinion, as values have changed in the past years wouyld get the matter off the table.
