Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I was divorced on Sep 22. We have 2 kids. It is in our divorce decree that we each claim 1 child a piece. We seperated on May 31.Do I have a choice on how I file my income taxes or am I required to file jointly because we were married the majority of the year?

You are required not to file as married as you are not married on 12/31. You may be entitled to file as Head of Household, if not, as single.
