Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

DNA testing

I am currently pregnant and almost due, and the father of my child, which I have nothing to do with, has been harassing me and threatening me if he doesn't get custody. I do not want him to have anything to do with my child or myself. Can he force partial custody upon me, or get a DNA test to get visitation?

Re: DNA testing

He can file a paternity case against you. If you deny he is the father the court will order DNA testing. The court cannot force you to give him joint custody but can force visitation. Once he is declared the father the court will order child support. Unfortunately he is the father and always will be. The Illinois courts and most people and agencies involved with these types of issues lean toward having two parents involved in the child's life. It works better for the child. So you have an up hill battle to prevent the dad from having anything to do with the child. I would not encourage it anyway.

I can help you get what you are entitled to in respect to support. we can set limits to visitation and we can determine the type of custody (sole or joint) that will be best for the child. That is what the court will do.
