Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Doctor Patient Privileges in IL, USA

In the State of Illinois in the United States....

Can I tell my parents to stay out of the doctors office when I go. If they stay out does the doctor have to keep everything we speak of confidential, or do my legal guardians(parents) have access to anything we say?

I'm 16, and feel that my parent's don't have their best interest for me when it comes to medical things, so I want to speak to my doctor in private with confidence that I can make changes without my parents listening in.

You need to talk to your doctor privately and discuss your concerns with him. If you can't speak with him freely during appointments call him on the phone. The best answer I have to your question is maybe under some special circumstances. Again, your doctor is your best source of information. If you think you're pregnant or need birth control advice, you may want to contact a local chapter of Planned Parenthood.
