Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Domestic Violence Information

My ex-girlfriend and I have a 14 yr old child together. She married a man that came from another state. I am concerned because I was told by another family member that her new stepdad cannot have visitation with his son, who is one year older than my child unless it is supervised. I was then told that he had a history of domestic violence when he was married to his ex-wife. I live in Indiana and he lived in Illinois. Can I get copies of part police reports or incidence reports or past restraining orders if he has any from the county where he use to live in Illinois ? Can I also get a copy of the paperwork stating he has supervised visitation ? Or could an attorney get that information for me?

Re: Domestic Violence Information

Time is of an issue here since your child's safety is of concern. Get an attorney to help you. No sense in taking chances.

If it is public records, then you - as a member of the public - can get access to the records.
