Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Enforcing a divorce agreement

What options are available for a father who is being denied visitation as specified in a divorce agreement? Actually, the mother has violated several of the agreements because she knows the father can't afford an attorney. He has child support taken from his check twice a month. The child is 6 years old.

Re: Enforcing a divorce agreement

I'd suggest two things, first, if she's the sole custodial parent and there's a specific court-ordered visitation schedule, I'd show-up for the scheduled visitation and if she denies you, call the police. There's actually a crime called visitation abuse. Second is to get into court and find her in contempt of court. This is more difficulty but you might try it on your own. Also, for this sort of thing a court would typically order the mother to pay your attorneys fees. Try the police option first, it's obviously no cost.
