Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Engagment
The joint parenting agreement between my boyfriend and his ex wife states that neither party can introduce their son to a boyfriend or girlfriend without the other person's consent, unless there is an engagment. I still have not met his son because his ex will not allow it to happen because she does not want another woman involved in her son's life. We have been together over a year and want to get engaged. I do not want a ring at the moment and would rather get something simple when we get married. His ex says that I cannot meet their son unless I have a ring that is bought by my boyfriend. What constitutes an engagment? Is it the agreement between two people to get married or does a ring have to be involved? Thank you.

Re: Engagment
Just go to a cheap jewelry store, buy a ring, and viola! You really needed me to tell you that?
Re: Engagment
Send out announcements about your engagement, that would be pretty solid proof I would think.
