Can my ex-wife take back a car that I have been making the payments on for 4 years, although it is in her name?

Depends on what your divorce judgment says. If the car is awarded to her, yes she can. If it was not dealt with in the divorce, it is titled in her name. It should have been awarded to you if it was in your possession and you were making the payments. If it was in her possession a court might have ordered you to make the payments.
