My soon to be ex-wife planning to marry an ex-convict, what are her chances of getting child custody/

It depends on the entirety of the man's record and what he was incarcerated for; the age(s) of the children, etc. There are a number of factors which go into the question of custody and the new spouse's criminal history is only one of those things, albeit a large one.
