Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Our family car is in oth me and my husbands name.

Our family car is in both our names and I wanted to know if I leave him driving our family car(he don't drive)can he call and report it stolen? Do not call me cause he is right there with me and I would be afraid he would hear the conversation.Thank you

I am not sure I understand your question very well. If you are asking whether or not you can leave your partner and drive away with a car that is in both his name and your name, then the answer is YES. He can obviously call and report that the car is stolen, but if the police stops you and you show them that your name is also on the title and registration, they cannot do much, but tell him that the car is not stolen, but is simply being driven by the other "owner", you cannot steal something that is yours. However, you must prove that the car is indeed in your name also, so you must provide proof of ownership such as title or registration and a positive identification for yourself. Good luck. You may want to contact an attorney in your local area and discuss all the ramifications that exist in your case.
