Fathers name not on birth certificate

I had a lil girl a year ago from a one night stand and dont know the fathers name or whereabouts and I have met my soul mate and hes wanting to adopt my daughter and give her his last name.How would I go about doing so? Or can it be done?

You need to go about doing a "related adoption" where your new husband adopts the child and legally becomes the father. We do these regularly and if the biological father does not fight it, the process can be pretty smooth. Are you married yet? Is this in Cook County?
