Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

im trying to figure out a situation for a friend... 16 years ago my friend was married to a woman and they had a child. both of them signed the birth certificate. before they got divorced, while they were separated, the mother privately adopted out their child without any notification to the father.i believe the child was 3 years old at the time. he wants to be reunited or get information on his daughter and always has. but he never knew where to turn. is their anything he can do now? since technically i do believe what occurred was illegal.

First off, you need to stop believing everything you are told. If this sob story isn't fiction, then this guy doesn't deserve to call himself a father. There is no State in the country, including Illinois where an adoption would be permitted with a known father, (i.e., one who signed the birth certificate) without that father signing off on the adoption. Also, if this did happen, one or both parents were guilty of crimes (i.e, abduction, neglect, abuse, etc.) involving the child. The "child" is now an adult, and there was nothing in the last 16 years that kept this man from seeking to find the child. Tell him to get lost.
