can i file for divorce in the US from a marriage that took place in mexico? my "husband" is still in mexico

As long as you meet the residency requirements of the state you are in (in IL being a resident for 90 days prior to the entry of the judgment and being a resident on the date of filing) then you can get divorced here. Unless your husband files an appearance, the only thing an IL court can do is divorce you. If your husband never was here, if he does not appear, nothing else can be done. If he was here at some point during the marriage and you can serve him with summons, then the Court could order support. Enforcing that order is another matter
