Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Filing taxes

When our divorce was final, in the degree of disolution, My now ex-husband was given the option to claim my oldest daughter (18) as a deduction and I would claim my youngest (15)as a deduction. My oldest also files her own taxes since she works, when off from school. When I went to file, my tax preparer told me since I house my oldest, support her when she is home from college, paid for her college, that I had a right to claim her, so I did. Now when my ex went to file his return, his preparer found out that my oldest was already an exemption on my return. So now he is threatening me that he has legal recourse.

Does HE?? He has not given her one cent toward any expenses, and even kicked her out of our former home. so if she could not be with me she would have no place to go.

Thank you, There is so much more details but I need to keep this brief.

Re: Filing taxes

Follow the advice of your tax preparer. If your former hasn't been suporting the older daughter, he has no right to claim her. Let him explain it to a family law judge.
