Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

finalizing a divorce

I am the plaintiff in a divorce case. My lawyer withdrew from my case and I received a notice to file an appearance or substitute attorney. My husband and I have settled matters between us and his attorney will finalize. Can this be done by his attorney without me having to hire another attorney? If I don't appear, will the case be finalized? After speniding what I have up to this point, hiring another attorney is not a financial option for me.

If you do not have the funds to hire an attorney then you should file your appearance and appear in court. Remember your husband's attorney has no obligation to make sure your rights in this matter are protected. So even though you say the issues are settled you should still appear at the court hearings to make sure what you settled on is actually what the court signs off on.
