financial durable power of attorney
My cousin has proved to be incapable of handling her financial affairs Her family (aunt and cousins) is worried about her, and is considering finding a lawyer or accountant who could serve as her conservitor, assuming she will agree to give him durable power of attorney Are there people who specialize in this? She lives in the west Chicago suburbs, and we'd like to identify someone who could manage all her finances for her

Conservators are appointed by courts of proper jurisdiction to manage the financial affairs of certain impaired folks who are demonstrably unable to manage such affairs themselves.
If your cousin has a relative in the Chicago area
who could assist her with her financial affairs,(even with a POA) that would likely be preferable to turning these matters over to a stranger. However, if no such relative is available, you might consider contacting the Chicago Bar Association to see if they could give you a few names of Chicago attorneys who could provide the services you are seeking for your cousin.

The previous answer is right. However, you mentioned an accountant. Accountants cannot give legal advice in the State of Illinois. Also, they cannot create documents that are legal in nature, i.e. power of attorney. Any non-lawyer in Illinois who does this is committing a felony. Please seek out the advice of a licensed attorney.
