Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I found out today that my bank account has a zero balance due to a child support order to collect back child support. The back child support came about when I lost my job and was unable to pay but I have been regular now for over a year but still trying to manage to pay the back support off. I called and the child support agency told me that I can file an appeal to get this judgement changed but I am currently deployed to Iraq and am unable to appear in court. I didn't even know they could put a lien on my bank account when I was deployed? What can I do?

You should look into hiring an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can prepare and file the documents you need, appear in court for you and establish a relationship with you so that if anything similar arises in the future, they'll know your situation and be able to help more efficiently and effectively. Many firms offer discounts to active military, so you should be sure to ask about that.

Best of luck to you!
