A friend of mine recently divorced doesn't want their child to go to a church the father attends due to its views on women and permission of abuse can she stop this legally.

Th custodial parent has the right to choose the child's religion unless that issue was reserved in the judgment. However, with the first amendment, Dad has a right to associate with his child in his church. It is not a simple issue, capable of answer in a forum such as this. There are too many collateral issues which may affect the determination.
