Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

We're trying to gain custody of a child who is not ours by blood.

My fiance are trying to gain custody of a child that we've been helping to raise for 4 years now. We thought she was his until a paternity test proved negative in 2005. He's the only father she's ever known. The mother has since lost her children and they were given to the grandma. The grandma passed the child on to us and now we're wondering how we should proceed. The mother already said she wants to give us custody. How do we proceed on this?

Hello and Happy New Year. I can tell

that you really love and care for this

child. In my opinion you should take

steps to adopt her. This is the best

approach considering the circumstances. The fact that mom

approves is great. I suggests that you act quickly. Will be happy to

discuss this with you further and in

more detail.
