Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
general power of attorney
help
Recently my husband has become disabled and his son found out he is still getting a paycheck he convinced his dad that he should be power of attorney because we were fighting and talking about divorce. He came and tried to take our apt keys and i had the police come and they told him that he can't do that even though my name is not on the lease.. it will be soon. Also he has tried to tell the front desk at the hospital that I can't see him even thoujgh he wants me too. Also since we are still married what is my liability for his bills and ctedit cards his son has?

Re: general power of attorney
This sounds very messy. First, if the husband is competent, he can authorize his son to act for him. You are not liable for your husbands son's credit cards (obviously). Sounds like you need to decide if your going to A.) stay married and fight the son, or b.) Let the husband cede power to the son and push you out.
